In-Tank Fuel Pump Upgrade

Supporting mod for bigger power: a modern high-flow pump in the stock hanger. Access is under the rear seat, and cleanliness is everything.

Procedure

  1. Run the tank low first. Depressurize the fuel system: pull the fuel pump fuse, crank until the engine dies, then disconnect the battery.
  2. Fold the rear seat, pull the access cover, and photograph every line and connector before touching them.
  3. Release the quick-connects with the right disconnect tool - forcing them cracks the plastic hats that cost more than the pump.
  4. Unscrew the retaining ring, lift the hanger slowly and tilt to keep the level-sender arm safe. Drain the hanger's fuel into a container.
  5. Swap the pump on the bench exactly per the kit instructions - correct sleeve, new sock filter, and the supplied wiring/clips. Reuse nothing rubber.
  6. Drop the hanger in with a NEW tank seal, ring torqued/clocked to its marks, lines clicked until they physically lock, connectors home.
  7. Key on-off three times to prime, check for seepage with your nose and eyes before starting, then start and re-check under the cover after a short drive. Note for tuned cars: a higher-flow pump can lean-shift idle trims - mention it to your tuner.

Work at your own risk. Torque values and procedures vary by vehicle — always confirm against the factory service manual for your exact model.
